Design

Designing and developing a product has been at the heart of Multiform Products since the very beginning. While the tools we use to take ideas from paper to prototype have evolved, the innovative thinking behind them remains the same. Working closely with our customers, we take initial ideas and sketches and refine them into practical, efficient solutions that meet both performance and manufacturing goals.

Once a concept has been established, our team uses SolidWorks to transform those ideas into detailed 3D models — giving customers the best possible visualisation of their product. From concept to prototype to full production, Multiform can take your project through every stage of design and manufacture.

What Should I Consider When Designing a Product?

A successful product starts with a thoughtful design. Design affects not only how something looks and functions, but also how it’s made. Every design decision influences manufacturing processes, the number of operations required, and ultimately the total cost of production.

To achieve the best result, consider all three key aspects of design:

  • Aesthetics – the visual appeal of your product
  • Functionality – how effectively it performs its purpose
  • Manufacturability – how efficiently it can be produced

Balancing these factors leads to smarter, more cost-effective results.

How Can I View My 3D Model Without SolidWorks?

You don’t need SolidWorks to view your design. Two simple options are available:

  1. eDrawings Viewer – a free SolidWorks tool that lets you view, rotate, and print 3D models.
  2. 3D PDF – we can export your design as an interactive PDF, viewable directly in the latest version of Adobe Reader.

Both options allow you to explore and visualise your design clearly and intuitively.

Already Have a Design?

If you’ve created your design in another CAD system, we can still help. SolidWorks supports a wide range of file formats, including:

DXF, DWG, Parasolid, STEP, ACIS, IGES, STL, VRML, CATIA, Pro/E, Unigraphics, IFC, Inventor, Solid Edge, Rhino and more (including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop).

While most formats can be imported, some work more seamlessly than others — our team will advise the best approach for clean translation and compatibility.
